Third Grade Teacher

Intro:

Guten Tag! I cannot express enough how honored and excited I am to be the new third grade teacher at St. John the Baptist School. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara as a double major in English and Dramatic Art with a double minor in German and Education. Since I am originally from Northern California, I decided to enjoy one more year at the beach as I obtained my elementary teaching credential and Masters in Education at UCSB. In my free time, I love performing in musicals–which is why I am thrilled to combine my passion for the arts and education while teaching at St. John’s! J

Love,

Miss Seele (Seal-E)

Start Time: Please note that school starts at 8:00 sharp.  Please arrive by 7:55 so we can all be in line and ready when the bell rings!  This year we will be having Morning Prayer as a school right before recess every day except Mondays.

Uniforms: Please consult the family handbook for guidelines on the uniform policy.

Snack: Please be sure to send your child with a healthy snack every day.  Even if your child is receiving hot lunch please still send a snack for Recess.

Parent Help: I love parent volunteers and prefer sending projects home to be worked on/assembled rather than in class help, since we are fortunate enough to consistently have Mrs. Clabby as our aide. Please refer to the family handbook for more PPP information and stay tuned for events!

Homework:  Homework will go home in your student’s homework folder every Monday and must be returned on Friday. Homework will include the week’s spelling list with spelling practice pages, math, and grammar practice sheets. Each week Religion, Science, and/or Social Studies pages may be included as well depending on what we cover in class that the students need to reinforce at home the following week.  In addition, children should be spending 15 minutes every night reading to or with a parent/guardian in preparation for their reading log entry (5 sentences/week).

Academic Schedule-

Language Arts: In Third Grade, Language Arts includes reading, writing, and oral language.  We will be spending time every day on these skills: reading in groups, writing letters and narratives, sharing orally, and implementing skills across other subject areas.

Math: Third Grade Math encompasses place value and student understanding of and skill with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers. Students estimate, measure, and describe objects and use patterns to help solve problems.

Religion:  In Third Grade our Religious Studies centers on the idea  that we are the church. Throughout the year we will be strengthening our faith and understanding of Catholicism learning how to continue the work of Jesus, learning how the church leads us in worship, and what it means to be a called a discipleship.

Science: Third Grade Science entails physical, life, and Earth science in the forms of energy and matter concepts, exploration of objects in the sky, and learning about different types of environments.

Social Studies: In Third Grade the focus is on your student’s understanding of communities, such as the study of American Indians, the subsequent arrival of immigrants, and the impact they have had in forming the character of our contemporary society.

Specialized Studies: I will be integrating art throughout the curriculum as students study Music, PE, Spanish, and Computer with our specialized staff.

Schoolspeak: Please remember to check out the schoolspeak website for all school and classroom information.  If you have any questions regarding login please ask Mrs. Brown in the front office.
